Why buying both is not a compromise
Here is the part that resolves the whole question. Because the four-latch lids interchange within each size family, a kitchen with some glass and some plastic is not two half-systems fighting for drawer space. What tempering actually does

And tempering is about heat, not impact: it makes the glass tougher against thermal stress and safer when it does break, granulating rather than sharding, but a hard drop onto tile can still finish it. Two myths worth clearing up
Two worries come up so often around plastic food storage that they deserve a plain answer, because both steer people away from the right choice for the wrong reason.
The first is that microwaving plastic is unsafe. The concern comes from older or low-grade plastics that were never rated for heat.
